Teclast just launched these days two models installed with a double operating system in priority: Teclast X98 Air 3G (Dual OS) and Teclast X98 Air II (Dual OS). The operating system has been upgraded but the price is the same as the former Teclast X98 Air 3G and Teclast X98 Air II models. The Dual OS X98 Air II is now on pre-sale at a price of 1099 yuan and the X98 Air 3G version will be also on sale in December with 1199 yuan.
This Teclast X98 Air II will be installed with both Android 4.4 and Windows 8.1 OS, so that users can switch between the two operating systems freely, making it better to meet their needs, and achieving the integration of entertainment and business. As to the specifications, the tablet uses a 64 Bit Bay Trail-T Z3736F processor with a 2.16 GHz high frequency. 2GB 64bit DDR3L high-speed memory, 32GB eMMC chip, even built in the Intel HD Graphics Gen 7 GPU, offering a faster speed with the dual operating systems, as well as playing large games. In the appearance, it uses a 9.7 inch IPS Retina screen, and adopts the advanced IGZO technology, with 2048*1536 pixels resolution. Moreover, the 7.4mm thin fuselage is more portable to take with.

The skinny on Indonesia’s love affair with Path

This afternoon at Startup Asia Jakarta 2014, Path’s Marketing Manager Ana LaRue shared some information regarding the company’s operations in Indonesia.
In addition to Path’s previously revealed plans to hire a country manager for the Indonesia region, they confirmed today that they have plans to set up an office here. LaRue also said that the main responsibilities of the country manager will involve working with local designers to create stickers for the social network and involve local brands.
But LaRue says that Path’s main focus here in Indonesia will be for research. The company is currently working with a select group of early adopters dubbed “The Path 50,” who test out new features and provides regular feedback. LaRue noted that a majority of Path’s users keep about 40 friends on their list, but that’s not the case in Indonesia.
Previously Path only allowed users a maximum of 150 friends, but this number has since increased to 500. LaRue states that the reason for the increase was to please consumers based on feedback, which is somewhat contrary to her previous statement on the number of friends that most users keep.

Aulia Masna, who conducted the interview, noted that in the past, Path used to publish interaction data that clearly identified how Path was being used. LaRue stated that the main reason they stopped publishing that data was due to privacy concerns. “We don’t want to share that data, we’re very focused on privacy of our users,” she said.
LaRue also discussed the launch of the spin-off chat application named Path Talk, which the company hopes will disrupt the crowded market of messaging applications. Masna asked if the app could be considered in line with the trend wherein US-based social apps like Facebook unbundle popular features into new apps. LaRue said unbundling is occurring in Asia too, and that the standalone Path Talk app helps Path users do their messaging without opening up the flagship app. She also said the company is pursuing avenues in Path Talk that will let brands interact with consumers.

Twitter wants to start making money from its 20 million Indonesian users

Rick Mulia (pictured left) is the business head at Twitter Indonesia. On stage today at our Startup Asia Jakarta 2014 event in Jakarta, Mulia explains that he’s been with Twitter for only five weeks.
He’s now based in Singapore but will soon move back to Indonesia to head up the upcoming Twitter Indonesia sales office which is slated to open in January.
Twitter has about 20 million active users in Indonesia from its global total of nearly a quarter of a billion. Mulia says Twitter is in Indonesia for its huge potential as the economy expands, and also for the ways it can be used positively for things like traffic, floods, and other topical applications. A recent example is the flood of activity on Twitter around the recent presidential election.
He adds that the usage of Twitter in Indonesia is “very advanced” and knowledgable. He also finds brands very keen to work with Twitter because they know how engaged people are with it.
Digital digits
“Innovation can happen in Indonesia” when it comes to Twitter, Mulia says. The recent launch of Digits and Fabric, he believes, shows that Twitter is making new things based on the needs of emerging markets. Digits allows people to login around the web using only their SMS, which was inspired by the way many people in some nations don’t have email and were put off by the email login requirement on many sites – including on Twitter itself.
Dick Costolo has promised significant investment in Indonesia, and Mulia says that’ll be seen first in the new office, which will focus on sales.
At this office, Twitter will work with local brands and celebrities to work on their Twitter content strategy, he says. Which is a nice way of saying monetization. Which is a nice way of saying ads.
Mulia’s own background is in adtech. He argues that Twitter is an affordable ad platform that works out better than other options for things like cost-per-click ad platforms. Twitter will build on that with upcoming features related to ecommerce and “direct response” services.

Amazon Fire Phone now just $200 without contract

Amazon has made some edits to the price of their Fire Phone, bringing the unlocked 32GB GSM model down to $199. That is not a contract price either.
This is a great, and interesting, shift for big A to make. On one hand, we have a device that is decently equipped, but has been all but laughed off for its overall underwhelming experience. However, at just $200, this phone is now in Moto G price competition. This may make a huge difference in sales, as the Fire Phone compares to the Moto G with twice as much RAM, at 2GB, 5 more MP in the camera, at 13MP and the more powerful Snapdragon 800 SoC, versus the Snapdragon 400 in the Moto G.
The general opinion at launch of the Amazon Fire Phone was that one could pick up a similarly spec’d Nexus 5, but with the pure Google Android experience, for as much as $100 less than Amazon’s initial offering of $450. Although the parallax feature of the entire Fire OS, called Dynamic Perspective, was very cool for a brief moment, the remaining perks, like Firefly andMayday were all but lost or unnecessary for most seasoned Android users.
Perhaps the best perk with the Amazon Fire Phone is one that is made even sweeter with this new price tag. Purchasing the Fire Phone makes you eligible for one free year of Amazon Prime. The Prime service offers up Amazon’s impressive library of video, music and book titles, not to mention free shipping on all purchases, for the going rate of $99 per year.

Amazon.com agreed to lease 470,000 square feet of space in midtown Manhattan from Vornado Realty Trust, including a site people familiar with the matter say will serve as a same-day shipping hub, warehouse and the company’s first customer-facing brick-and-mortar location.The Seattle e-commerce giant has agreed to lease the space for 17 years, according to a statement from Vornado Thursday. Encryption and Storage Performance in Android 5.0 Lollipop
As you can see, there’s a very significant performance penalty that comes with enabling FDE, with a 62.9% drop in random read performance, a 50.5% drop in random write performance, and a staggering 80.7% drop in sequential read performance. This has serious negative implications for device performance in any situation where applications are reading or writing to disk. Google’s move to enable FDE by default also may not be very helpful with real world security without a change in user behaviour, as much of the security comes from the use of a passcode. This poses a problem, because the users that don’t use a passcode doesn’t really benefit from FDE, but they’re still subject to the penalties.
I understand the need for FDE. But perhaps there needs to be user-selectable options as to what requires encryption.

Samsung has always done some pretty great advertisements, especially with the help of some big name celebrities. In the latest “Do You Note?” advertisement series, Samsung has brought on the likes of Reggie Watts to help sell its newest flagship, the Galaxy Note 4.
Samsung’s Note 4 brought a Quad HD screen, a big 3,220 mAh battery, and much improved 16MP camera to the phablet world. While we feel as though Samsung’s Touchwiz overlay could use some work, the Note 4 is still one of our favorite phones of the year. In the mean time, let’s talk ads. Samsung has released four new ads, and three of them feature a family that just can’t live without their Samsung devices. The first features a brother that needs to learn how to multitask, the next is about a sister that needs to take more selfies, and the last is about the father who can’t figure out how to charge his phone properly.
